Eve - Begins

Genesis 2:18-22The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

The strange solenodon is a mammal found primarily in Cuba and Hispanola. Sure, it looks cute and manageable enough - sort of like an over-sized hedgehog. Too bad the solenodon injects rattlesnake-like venom through its teeth, the only mammal to do so. Easily annoyed, the solenodon bites at the drop of a banana leaf. Where in the world did Adam come up with the name solenodon? I often wonder why many of the animals have the name they do. Some are understandable, like the sloth- very slow-moving, lazy animal - that I get. And when the animals were all named - which I'm sure took a very long time to do - not one was capable of being a helper to the man, not even man's best friend - the dog. Sure puts a dent in the whole evolution theory - as if it wasn't weak enough already.

On another note, Laparoscopic surgery is the best way in this day and age to have surgery. While the cost for this is around $12,000 - slightly more than other types of surgery, the healing time to get back to work has been decreased to under 3 weeks. If man has made this incredible medical breakthrough, how much more incredible is our God: well here's our example. God put Adam to sleep - no anesthesia, gas, nothing - and then He opened him up and took his rib. God made woman with this rib - which while incredible in itself, let's not forget the rest of the process. When Adam woke up, there was Eve waiting for him. No recovery time, no scars, no pain, no medical bill. The only thing awaiting Adam when he awoke was his brand new partner. Eve beat out all the other animals and, according to God, was the only one capable of being the kind of partner that Adam needed - notice that God didn't make Adam another man. So the next time a phish with legs and an equals (=) sign flash at you from someone's bumper, remember that God's plan is always the best, and He gave us this scripture as proof.

I love the story of the birth of Eve. It boggles my mind in every way. From the medical aspects to the thoughts that must have gone through these two people's minds at first sight of each other. Absolutely amazing.

Your blog is so intelligent; I'm bemused that would stop by mine regularly! Your comments about your mom cracked me up. I can relate.

I told Kristy the other day that I was stealing her friend and then added the quick, "Just kidding." I still can't get over how we both know her.

My husband just had surgery (rotator cuff) so this hits home refreshly to me.

I agree with Linda (2nd cup). You are smart!

You guys are very kind. Linda, it is really something that we know someone so well and share that, and it takes a lot of talent to write something about your every day life and still keep it entertaining as all of you do (which is why I keep going back to my favorite blogs - as listed). As far as what I write, anything 'smart' is what I get from God - the stuff that comes off as 'not so smart' - that's all me. Just to clarify. :)

I'm a day late--AGAIN!! But, I do love this story--one of my very favorites. And I agree--it must have taken a VERY long time to name all the animals--just think of all the different species of birds, for example--and then all the others!! I know how long it took me to just pick one name for each child!!

And then the story of how God made Eve--shaped her with His own hands--incredible!!
